Additional Information

Agency Name: National Park Service
Description: OVERVIEW

The objective of this Agreement is to provide a benefit to history teachers and students through a cooperative agreement and assistance to National History Day. In Fiscal Year 2010, Congress appropriated funds to create a new program in the National Park Service to promote the teaching of history and civics at the sites preserved by the National Park Service where many of our nations major historical events occurred. Included in the authorization of this funding is the emphasis on the National Park Service working cooperatively with the Department of Education and other educational partners, like, National History Day, in achieving its educational and public outreach goals. The National Park Service has been authorized by 16 U.S.C. 1g to enter into cooperative agreements and to provide financial assistance to public and private nonprofit organizations, when determined by the Secretary of Interior to be in the public interest. In order for the National Park Service to administer the Teaching History and Civics program and carry out its goals, an active partnership with National History Day is being established.
