Description: | The purpose of this project is to develop an historic context study which situates the historiography of Reconstruction within NPS sites in the Northeast Region (NER), and includes a professional development component for NPS staff to increase park capacity to interpret Reconstruction at NPS NER sites for the public. Through research and public interpretive application, this project will highlight that Reconstruction was a national undertaking, and questions of citizenship and belonging arising the aftermath of the Civil War, especially through the emancipation of African American slaves, as well as legacies of discrimination, violence, and disenfranchisement extended into Northern states. |
