The National Park Service is offering this grant to engage interns in critical bat monitoring activities. This grant is primarily for determining if endangered bat species utilize trees designated for removal due to park activities, such as trail construction or hazard tree management, as seasonal roosts. The findings will ensure the park’s compliance with the Endangered Species Act and enhance public safety. A crucial secondary purpose of this grant is to provide interns with comprehensive field experience across various natural resource management projects. This includes opportunities in lesser caves inventory, exotic plant management, and bird monitoring, offering a broad educational and practical foundation in conservation.

Description: | NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD: This funding announcement is not a request for applications or proposals. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service’s intention to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source justified master cooperative agreement. The objective of this Agreement is to determine if endangered bat species are using certain trees, which have been identified for removal in support of park activities (trail construction/maintenance, hazard tree removal), as seasonal roosts. The determinations will be provided to managers in order to ensure compliance with the Endangered Species Act and public safety. A secondary objective is to provide the interns a broad experience in other natural resources field activities by using them, when not assigned bat monitoring activities, in such projects as the lesser caves inventory, exotic plant management, bird monitoring, etc. |
