| Description: | This project will preserve in place weathered and rotted viga ends in Residence 1 at Wupatki National Monument (WUPA). Vigas are rough-hewn roof timbers used in adobe and other pueblo style buildings, and often extend beyond the wall face. Since construction in 1940, the vigas in Residence 1 have weathered and deteriorated due to exposure to sunlight and temperature cycles, water, wind, insects and dry rot. This project includes conducting a two week on-site, hands-on workshop on viga preservation. |
