THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service’s intention to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source justified master cooperative agreement.
Master Cooperative Agreement Number P15AC00012 was entered into by and between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, (NPS), and Citizens Conservation Corp of West Virginia (WVCCC) to conduct projects and programs that strenghtan and revitalize communities; provide self-esteem, educational enhancements and employment opportunities through meaningful work experiences for yourth and adults; and conserve, develop and enhance natural resources.
The project will contribute to critical natural and cultural resource management and maintenance projects on the 1830’s Allegheny Portage Historic Railroad Trace, Levels 6 through 10 which extends from Cresson, PA to Duncansville, PA parallel to ’Old’ Route 22.
This segment of the trace includes maintenance of the Historic Engine House Foundations and structures (ruins) of Level 8 & 9. This is to include the eradication of invasive species and removal of rotten, fallen timbers and associated debris from in excess of 1000 square feet of drains and culvert and the rehabilitation of retaining walls along the Level 8 & 9 Ruins. Local youth gain valuable stewardship experience through hands-on service opportunities as they engage in projects that preserve and maintain the historic landscape and associated cultural assets of Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site. The project teaches youth about stewardship careers in asset management as related to natural and cultural landscape skills. The project motivates its youth participants to become involved in cultural and historical resource protection of their communities and beyond.
