Description: |
The purpose of this project is to provide Naval Base Coronado (NBC) and its partners with an understanding of the effects of the non-native Kuroshio Shot Hole Borer (Euwallacea sp. “KSHB”) within the Tijuana River Valley. This work will use the results of prior research and continue such research on the KSHB that began in 2015 and will augment the Riparian Pre-Restoration Plan for the Lower Tijuana River Valley, the part of the river north of the international border and which also runs through Naval Outlying Landing Field Imperial Beach (NOLFIB). General work to be performed is as follows:
1. Study the progression of the KSHB infestation in the Tijuana River Valley study area during 2018;
2. Determine response of riparian forests in 2018; and
3. Determine how the KSB is impacting forests in the San Diego County study area.
This will become a framework for the implementation of a future project(s) to restore degraded riparian habitat within the river valley. Please review the provided statement of work for complete details of this project. Option years will be identical to the requirements of the base.

Develop a best-management strategy for damaged forests; 4. Study the progression of the KSHB infestation in the Tijuana River Valley during 2018; 5. Determine response of riparian forest; and 6. Examine whether the Tijuana River Valley has unique attributes making it vulnerable to the KSHB infestation This will become a framework for the implementation of a future project(s) to restore degraded riparian habitat within the river valley.
