Description: |
Infectious diseases have negatively impacted U.S. military operations dating as far back as the Revolutionary War. Recent outbreaks of Ebola, Chikungunya and Zika combined with the ongoing threats posed by malaria, infectious diarrhea and multi-drug resistant bacteria in regions where U.S. military personnel operate underscore the need for preventive measures to mitigate against the impact that infectious diseases have on the operational forces of the U. S. The goal of this Cooperative Agreement is to engage in a collaborative research and development (R&D) effort for protective vaccines and other countermeasures targeting the causative agents of malaria, travelers’ diarrhea, rickettsial pathogens, multi-drug resistant bacteria, and emerging viral diseases.
