Description:: The purpose of this Funding Opportunity is to support hypothesis-testing, mechanistic studies on the activation and regulation of human immune responses in the context of infectious disease. The immediate objectives are to support research on human immunological responses to infection, vaccination against infectious disease, or administration of a vaccine adjuvant(s) that targets an innate immune receptor(s); and to support the stable, flexible, centralized infrastructure needed to promote and coordinate multi-disciplinary research in human immunology as it relates to defense against infectious disease. This research program was initiated by NIAID in fiscal year 2003 and is being renewed for the second time through open competition. All qualified investigators are invited to apply; prior funding under this program or through NIAID or NIH is not required.
