This NIAID K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Grant is for supporting outstanding postdoctoral researchers with a clinical doctorate degree who aim to transition into independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions. The program facilitates a timely shift from mentored research to launching competitive, independent research careers in biomedical fields, addressing the national physician-scientist workforce shortage. This specific funding opportunity requires candidates to serve as the lead investigator of an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or a separate ancillary clinical trial. It provides independent NIAID research support during this critical transition phase, enabling awardees to establish their own research programs focused on clinical investigations.
