The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) are offering R34 Planning Grants. This program encourages institutions and organizations to develop and pilot test effective, practical, sustainable, and cost-efficient strategies aimed at preventing and treating diabetes and obesity. The research should focus on preventing or reversing obesity, preventing type 2 diabetes, improving care for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, or delaying related complications. NIMH specifically seeks proposals addressing individuals with severe mental illness, who face a significantly higher risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes. The ultimate goal is to identify approaches with potential for broad dissemination to clinical practice, individuals, and at-risk communities.
