NIGMS is offering the Legacy Community-Wide Scientific Resources Maintenance Grant to support vital resources developed through NIGMS research that are essential for the NIGMS-supported community of researchers. The grant aims to sustain existing resources that are no longer eligible for initial funding, not yet self-sustaining, or ready for commercialization. Funding is allocated for maintenance purposes only, not for new resource development or research activities. Eligible resources must be NIGMS-sponsored ‘legacy’ resources unable to renew initial funding. Applicants can request up to three years of support to facilitate the transition towards more permanent funding sources. Applications must be submitted by Jun 14, 2019.

Description: | The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support important “legacy” resources developed as a result of NIGMS research activities that are central to the mission of NIGMS and demonstrate a high value to a community of researchers that NIGMS supports, but are no longer eligible for support under their original initiatives. It is also expected that these resources are not eligible for support by other Institutes’/Centers’ funding opportunity announcements, and not yet self-sustaining or ready for commercialization. For this initiative, a resource is defined as a non-hypothesis-driven activity that is available to any qualified investigator and provides data, materials, tools, or services considered essential to making the most timely, high quality, and cost-efficient progress in a field. This funding opportunity is designed to support the continuation of existing resources, not to develop new ones. The support requested must be for funding of maintenance activities only, and not for research activities. Under this limited program, only NIGMS-sponsored “legacy” resources that cannot be renewed under their initial funding activity are eligible. Up to three years’ support can be requested while plans to transition to a more permanent form of support are implemented. |
