The NIH is offering the Avenir Award Program for Research on Substance Use Disorders and HIV/AIDS to support early stage investigators. This program looks toward the future by funding highly innovative and creative studies addressing critical NIH HIV/AIDS Research Priorities. This grant is for the purpose of fostering groundbreaking research at the intersection of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS, where the connection to drug abuse must be clearly defined. Both basic and clinical research approaches are encouraged. The ultimate goal is to benefit substance-using populations affected by or at risk for HIV/AIDS, aiming to reduce HIV incidence, enhance therapies, mitigate comorbid conditions, and ultimately eradicate HIV.
