This National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant aims to advance the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Project by expanding the catalog of functional elements in the human and mouse genomes. Researchers are invited to develop an improved catalog through innovative data generation pipelines and mapping elements in disease-relevant samples. The goal is to provide valuable insights for disease studies and enhance biological knowledge. Projects funded under this grant will contribute to the ENCODE Consortium and help bridge gaps in current catalogs. Closing date for applications is March 21, 2016.

Description: | The Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Project has cataloged a significant number of candidate functional elements in the human and mouse (Mus musculus) genomes. These catalogs are being used by the research community to expand on basic biological knowledge, to develop research tools and to interpret the results of disease-mapping studies. Although much progress has been made over the past decade, these catalogs are incomplete. The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications for research projects to apply state-of-the-art, high-throughput and cost-effective data generation pipelines to develop an expanded catalog of candidate functional elements in the human and mouse genomes. As part of this effort, applicants may map candidate elements in biological samples relevant to specific diseases to help expand the catalog while at the same time informing on how to direct disease studies in the long run. The funded projects will participate in the ENCODE Consortium. |
