This National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant is designed to fund basic and/or methodological research investigating health-related effects within dyads. A dyad is defined as two individuals whose interactions and reciprocal influences are integral to their health outcomes, nested within broader social contexts and networks. The funding welcomes both animal and human subjects research, encompassing observational studies involving humans or analyses of existing and synthesized datasets. The core objective is to illuminate and measure these independent and interdependent health impacts. Importantly, this specific funding opportunity does not support clinical trials. Researchers intending to propose basic science experimental studies involving human participants should apply through the companion FOA.

Description: | This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites basic and/or methodological research projects that seek to illuminate or measure independent and interdependent health-related effects within dyads. For the purpose of this FOA, a dyad is a unit of two individuals whose interactions and influences on one another are nested within larger social contexts and networks. Both animal and human subjects research projects are welcome. Types of projects submitted under this FOA include but are not limited to, studies observational studies involving humans, or existing/synthesized datasets studies. Applications proposing studies that prospectively assign human participants to conditions meet the NIH definition of basic research and fall within the NIH definition of clinical trials (see, e.g., NOT-OD-19-024). Researchers proposing basic science experimental studies involving human participants (i.e., experimentally manipulate independent variables) should consider the companion FOA PAR-XX-XXX “Dyadic Interpersonal Processes and Biopsychosocial outcomes (R01 Basic Experimental Studies with Humans). |
