NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA/NMFS) is offering the FY 2011 Marine National Monument Program Grants. This grant is for supporting projects aimed at preserving and protecting vital marine ecosystems within designated Marine National Monuments (MNMs). In 2009, three MNMs – Marianas Trench, Rose Atoll, and Pacific Remote Islands – were established by Presidential Proclamation. These undisturbed areas boast healthy coral reefs, numerous apex predators, high fish biomass, and abundant seabirds. Management plans are underway to guide resource protection in these isolated locations. NOAA/NMFS seeks proposals that fulfill the objectives of these Proclamations and the upcoming MNM management goals.
