The National Park Service (NPS), in collaboration with the Montana Conservation Corps, is offering this grant to undertake extensive trail restoration and natural resource rehabilitation within the Shelf Lake Trail infrastructure. This grant is for the critical purpose of addressing deteriorated and damaged trail structures and surfaces, while also mitigating environmental impacts. Crews will engage in a variety of restoration regimes, including constructing and repairing bridges, turnpikes, and causeways, implementing drainage and erosion control systems, and building retaining walls using natural materials. Furthermore, soil and vegetation damage will be rehabilitated through re-contouring, natural barriers, and replanting with native seeds, plugs, and transplants. Work will utilize various hand and power tools for comprehensive site recovery. This project is funded by the American Recovery Act of 2009 (ARRA).
