| Description: |
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata (PAS Kolkata) seeks proposals for a project entitled “Intellectual Property Rights Workshop for Practitioners in East India.” Under this project, a grantee will organize and implement a four-day Intellectual Property Rights Workshop for East India practitioners. Two days of the workshop will occur at the American Center in Kolkata with practitioners already working in the fields of IPR and two days with a local educational partner; preferably an institute of higher education that teaches courses on IPR. The workshop will bring together U.S. and Indian IPR experts and practitioners to discuss IPR, copyright infringement, and patent and trademark law issues, specifically in the East Indian context. The workshop will also be used to create awareness about IPR issues and promote IPR-related partnerships. During the workshop, experts from the U.S. and India will network and share best practices. Preceding the workshop, virtual engagements should be used to acquaint the participants and help set the agenda for the workshop. The grantee will work with local IPR experts and prominent law firms in the region to discuss differences in IPR practices in India and the U.S. D uring the training, the participants will produce a knowledge document on IPR for public consumption. The academic and practitioners best practices will form a part of the document. This will be widely shared in the media in the form of op-eds, write ups and will be used for further education in partnering institutions. Following the workshop, the academics and practitioners will collaborate to develop a joint academic document that will focus on IPR issues in U.S. and Indian markets. The grantee will encourage the practitioners to form a network of U.S. and India IPR practitioners who could jointly work on global partnership projects independently after the grant period has ended. The evaluation of the project will also depend on the sustainability plan of the proposals. (Please refer to the full announcement available under ‘related documents tab.’) |
