Additional Information

Agency Name: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Description: The purpose of this program is to build and support Health Demographic Surveillance Sites (HDSS) activities in Mozambique that are being carried out by Mozambican-run and led organizations. This support will improve the type and quality of work being done at the HDS sites to inform public health decisions, and will also build local human resources. HDSS activities will provide critical information to the Government of Mozambique and others working in health by providing data that allows improved calculations of health statistics needed for decision making, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and interventions, including mortality due to HIV. By creating a sample frame and providing longitudinal follow up of a well-defined population, they also create a platform for public health evaluations. Expansion of HDS sites will also build human resource capacity in public health and clinical research by providing an environment for training Mozambican Government demographers, epidemiologists, and clinicians on morbidity and mortality surveillance methods.
