| Description: | This program will provide educational and work opportunities to young people in the parkâ¿¿s local communities. Recruitment will target diverse, inner-city candidates, and will provide both skills training and directives on public interactions to enhance their desire to further their education in this field and/or create better job prospects.
To enrich the learning potential, youth will explore various types of cultural resource duties located among different divisions of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park (SAFR). Through assigned tasks â¿¿based on their specialty field of study and its relation to the conservation and preservation resources available, interns will cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the parkâ¿¿s historic maritime artifacts and other cultural resources, while obtaining apprentice-type training, the confidence to engage with the public, technical and trade skills, and personal development. Successful engagement of these interns would conclude with an academic bond between these youth, located throughout San Francisco. To foster such meaningful relationships between the interns and mentors will provide a greater likelihood of their future success. |
