Description: | This is a project at San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park in partnership with American Conservation Experience (ACE) The project will provide educational and work opportunities to young people in the parkâ¿¿s local community. Through tasks related to resource conservation and maintenance, the project will foster an understanding and appreciation of the parkâ¿¿s cultural resources while providing youths with job training and personal development opportunities.
Interns will be mentored by NPS staff as they perform work related to their field of study/interest. Youth will work in different divisions to support conservation and preservation at the park. Internship duties will be in the following areas: Exhibit Development, that includes working alongside curators, exhibit technicians, and resource experts to create and maintain cultural resource interpretive displays. Cultural Resources, Youth will learn to care for resource objects such as archive and museum collections. Outreach and Youth Education, includes youth education and expanding and developing youth in the park with hands on conservation projects. Ship Preservation, youth will be mentored on caring for National Historic Landmark ships and small craft. Administration and Management, youth will shadow and learn about working with Cultural Resource and Ships Managers on tracking and supporting conservation and education in the park. |
