The Sitka National Historical Park Scholars-In-Parks Program aims to address weaknesses in the park’s history program by focusing on communicating the history of Russian America, engaging scholars in Russian American history, and connecting the park to the broader history of Alaska as part of Russian America. This grant opportunity utilizes the park’s collection of Russian American reference material and its Congressional designation as the primary location for NPS scholarship on Russian America. Scholars willing to contribute to the historical research of the park are encouraged to apply. Deadline for application submission is on Sep 07, 2015.

Description: | Scholars in Parks Program – Sitka NHP recently commissioned a Historical Research Plan (Allan 2015), which concluded that there were identifiable weaknesses in the parks history program, including weakness in communicating the history of Russian America, engaging scholars of Russian American history, and in connecting Sitka NHP to the broader history of Alaska as a part of Russian America. This task agreement moves the park toward remedying these weaknesses, using the strength of the parks collection of Russian American reference material, Congressional designation as the principal location for NPS scholarship on Russian America, and CWUs identified scholarship in Russian-American history. |
