The SMART Department is offering this grant program to assist jurisdictions in developing or enhancing programs that implement the requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), part of the Adam Walsh Act. This grant is for states, U.S. territories, Washington D.C., and federally-recognized Indian tribes to establish and maintain comprehensive sex offender registries. SORNA mandates that sex offenders register and update their registration in every jurisdiction where they reside, work, or study. The grant supports compliance with SORNA’s stipulations, including required registration information, appropriate frequency and duration of registration, participation in the National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), and use of the SORNA Exchange Portal, ultimately enhancing public safety through effective sex offender management.
