This grant is for the final phase of the South Orient Rail Line Rehabilitation project, aiming to upgrade approximately 82 miles of track from San Angelo Junction to San Angelo, Texas, from Excepted Track to Class 2. The project encompasses critical infrastructure improvements, including the replacement of two structurally deficient timber rail bridges and rehabilitation of 29 others. It also involves replacing or repairing two wooden-box culverts and constructing a new drainage ditch. Key rail upgrades include extending continuously welded rail to replace jointed sections in multiple curves and replacing defective switch components. Additionally, highway-rail grade crossing signal timings will be adjusted at eight locations to facilitate higher train speeds.
