This grant is for the purpose of providing scientific and technical support to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) for the comprehensive redesign and testing of the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) instruments. Specifically, this initiative aims to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and utility of the NCVS roster control card, crime screener, and crime incident forms. Key objectives include evaluating and modernizing the instrument content and organization, improving the core-supplement design, developing a robust procedure for incorporating routine updates to capture emerging crime types, and establishing a systematic process for testing item reliability, validity, and burden. The project also entails conducting cognitive tests and pre-testing the modified NCVS over a three-year period, ensuring the survey’s continued relevance and accuracy.
