FUNDING OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

A. Project Background Information:

The Upper Burro Creek Archaeological Field School began in 2003 as a regional program on lands administered by the BLM Kingman Field Office. This School is specific to archaeological resources and involves BLM and Pima Community College Centre for Archaeological Field Training (Tucson, AZ).

B. Project Objective:

The principal purpose of this project is for the BLM to collaborate with a recipient to assist in meeting the requirements for conducting cultural inventories in accordance with FLPMA and Section 110 of the NHPA. In addition, the field school trains students how to conduct archaeological fieldwork according to Secretary of Interior Standards. These students often move on to work in the field of cultural resource management, either as a 3rd party consultant or with one of the numerous agencies tasked with protecting cultural/historical resources. This field school is also producing data that is of great interest to the archaeological community as it provides pieces to a larger puzzle in an area of Arizona that is poorly understood archaeologically.
