This grant is for the purpose of assisting Lander County and the Bureau of Land Management in jointly determining the feasibility of utilizing post-mining infrastructure with renewable energy technology. Specifically, the study will assess how much existing mine infrastructure, including buildings and utility systems (water, sewer, power), can be sustainably adapted for renewable resource uses, also considering National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements. This project aligns with the Recovery Act’s goals to spur technological advancements, leverage existing infrastructure, and invest wisely in new technologies that promise long-term economic benefits for the region.
