The Food Safety Outreach Program offers competitive grants designed to significantly expand and complement the national infrastructure for food safety training, education, extension, outreach, and technical assistance. A key focus is the sustained delivery of customized food safety training. This grant is for projects that will develop and implement targeted food safety initiatives addressing the specific needs of critical audiences, including owners and operators of small to mid-sized farms, beginning farmers, socially-disadvantaged farmers, small processors, and small fresh fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers. Applications are strongly encouraged from community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, food hubs, farm cooperatives, extension services, and other local groups directly involved in their communities, to ensure effective, localized support and training.

| Additional Information on Eligibility: | Eligibility Requirements Entities are eligible to apply to the National Food Safety and Outreach Program (FSOP) if they meet at least one of the following criteria: 1. The Cooperative Extension Service for a U.S. state or territory; 2. Non-government organizations and/or community-based organizations representing owners and operators of farms, small food processors, or small fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers that has a commitment to public health and expertise in administering programs that contribute to food safety; 3. Federal, State, local, or tribal agencies; 4. An institution of higher education (as defined in Section 101(a) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C1862. 1001(a)) or a foundation maintained by an institution of higher education; 5. A collaboration of two or more eligible entities. Applicants for the FSOP must meet all the requirements discussed in this RFA. Failure to meet the eligibility criteria by the application deadline may result in exclusion from consideration or, preclude NIFA from making an award. Duplicate or Multiple Submissions – Duplicate or multiple submissions is not allowed.
