This grant is for the purpose of assisting small communities in revitalizing their historic or traditional central business districts, commonly known as ‘Main Street’ areas. The HOPE VI Main Street Grant Program provides funding to support the conversion of unused commercial spaces within these districts into affordable housing units. Key objectives include redeveloping Main Street areas, preserving their historic or traditional architectural character, enhancing local economic development efforts, and crucially, expanding the availability of affordable housing. This initiative aims to breathe new life into community centers by fostering a blend of historical preservation, economic growth, and accessible housing solutions for residents.
