The National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program offers the STATEMAP grant to support the establishment of essential geologic frameworks across individual States. This grant is designed to address areas critical to the economic, social, or scientific well-being of the respective States. Mapping priorities are collaboratively determined by the State Geologist and a multi-representational State Mapping Advisory Committee. This collaborative process ensures that funding targets areas with compelling needs for geologic-map information, whether due to multiple overlapping issues or specific, critical single-issue requirements. Furthermore, the grant focuses on supporting mapping initiatives that are crucial for solving pressing earth-science problems identified within the States. The overall purpose is to enhance state-level geologic data for informed decision-making and problem-solving.
