This grant is for establishing Clinical Centers (CCs) within the new National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Prevention and Early Treatment of Acute Lung Injury (PETAL) Clinical Trials Network. The Network aims to consist of approximately eleven CCs and one Clinical Coordinating Center, collectively developing and conducting 3-5 randomized controlled clinical trials. The primary purpose is to prevent, treat, and improve outcomes for adult patients with, or at risk for, Acute Lung Injury (ALI) or Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Each selected Clinical Center is expected to enroll 220 patients over a 5.5-year period to advance research in this critical area.
