Statutory
Authority: The National Park Service is responsible under Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 as amended under NPS-28 for the identification and evaluation of Park Cultural Resources and the listing of those resources on the National Register of Historic Places.

The National Historic Preservation Act (Amended 1992, PL. 102-575) and the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (PL 96-487) authorize the National Park Service to provide technical assistance on behalf of nationally significant resources.

Section 2(e) of the Historic Sites Act of 1935 authorizes the Secretary to contract and make Cooperative Agreements with public and private bodies and persons to “protect, preserve, maintain, or operate” historic properties in public or private ownership.

Executive Order 13006 directs the Secretary of the Interior to seek appropriate partnerships with private organizations with the goal of enhancing participation of these parties in the National Historic Preservation Program.
