This grant is for the purpose of establishing a pilot Artists-in-Residence Program within the National Park Service’s Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. It aims to recruit and support artists by providing workspace and opportunities to share their art with visitors. Products, including art objects, performances, or workshops, will connect with the community, serving as ‘park ambassadors’ in local libraries and recreation centers. The program also seeks to broaden the reach of the park’s mission and potentially generate funds through art donations to sustain future initiatives. This one-year pilot project commenced in September 2011, continuing through December 2012, with potential for extension.
