Description: | NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD: This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Services (NPS) intention to fund Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore SEED Youth Conservation Corp projects.
The first task within the agreement will help control 1,375 acres of invasive babys breath in the park. The objective is to treat all acreage and place treated acreage on rotating treatment schedules to maintain a controllable infestation level that still allows native species to survive. This strategy would be maintained, eradicating the invasive when possible, until more effective treatment is found. The second task within the agreement is to build new tent pads in the North Manitou Island campground. This area receives many visitors in the summer which has caused a trampling of vegetation and loss as well as soil damage. The soil compaction has led to the formation of low spots where water pools making the required tent set up undesirable. Raised tent pads are needed to provide campers with a desirable area to set up their tents where water will not pool when it rains. The National Park Service will be substantially involved in fulfilling the tasks and objectives of the project.
