This grant is for conducting comprehensive land health assessments within vital sagegrouse habitat areas. The Natural Resources Department aims to enhance conservation efforts by funding the collection of crucial quantitative and qualitative data on vegetation, soils, hydrology, and ecosystem processes. This information will enable the identification of areas at risk of degradation or currently facing resource problems. The project will generate detailed Standards Determination Documents and Land Health Assessments, which will be instrumental in prioritizing restoration activities specific to sagegrouse conservation and sustainable renewable energy development. A key objective is also to provide valuable real-life conservation experience to resource associates, thereby contributing to broader conservation goals and cultivating a stronger pool of future conservation professionals.

Description: | The proposed project will generate an understanding of the process used to develop land health assessments, including the data capture and evaluation thus furthering general conservation goals and providing real-life conservation experience to successful resource associates. The recipient will provide resource associates to collect quantitative and qualitative data associated with vegetation, soils, hydrology and ecosystem processes. The land health assessments will provide a fairly detailed description of the seral condition of the vegetation and soil characteristics and the data will assist to identify areas that are potentially at risk of degradation or where resource problems currently exist. This data will be used to generate a Standards Determination Document and a Land Health Assessment as well as be utilized to prioritize areas for restoration specific to sage grouse habitat and renewable energy development. This project would also potentially increase the number of qualified applicants for future jobs in conservation fields. |
