This grant is for academic institutions to establish innovative, year-round research and mentoring programs that engage undergraduates in the biological sciences. Its primary purpose is to increase the number and diversity of individuals pursuing graduate studies in biological research fields supported by the NSF Directorate for Biological Sciences. A key emphasis is placed on broadening participation among groups historically underrepresented in science and engineering, including African Americans, Alaska Natives, American Indians, Hispanic Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, and persons with disabilities. This initiative aims to cultivate a more inclusive and diverse future for biological research.
