Additional Information

Agency Name: National Park Service
Description: This project targets youth who are seeking degrees in fire protection engineering or structural fire management programs. The interns will be placed at various parks where there is a need to focus on projects such as annual fire inspections, developing inspection testing and maintenance contracts, developing hot work permit programs, fire extinguisher training, hydrant flow tests, and other structural fire prevention related projects. In addition, interns will be assigned a historic building in the park and will be asked to assess the structural fire risks that could result in the loss of life or the loss of the structure in a structural fire event. Interns will address the risk based on their knowledge of fire codes and provide recommendations to mitigate the risks in a written report.
