This grant aims to significantly strengthen Guyana’s Human Resources for Health (HRH) and epidemiological capabilities through targeted training programs for local health professionals. The initiative is crucial as Guyana currently lacks Baccalaureate or Master Degree Epidemiology programs, and possesses only two locally trained epidemiologists. By developing this essential capacity within the country, the program directly supports the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) II goals, promoting increased local government ownership, leadership, and management of the national HIV/AIDS response. Ultimately, this funding will enhance Guyana’s public health system and infrastructure, building sustainable local expertise in epidemiology, surveillance, and public health management.
