Additional Information on Eligibility: Applications may be submitted by Land-grant colleges and universities that are eligible to receive funds under the Act of July 2, 1862 (7 U.S.C. 301 et seq.), and the Act of August 30, 1890 (7 U.S.C. 321 et seq.), including Tuskegee University, West Virginia State University and the University of the District of Columbia. Applications may be submitted by any of the Tribal colleges and universities designated as 1994 Land-Grant Institutions under the Educational Land-Grant Status Act of 1994, as amended.

Description: For FY 2011, the Rural Health and Safety Education Programs will focus on issues related to individual and family health in one or more of the following areas: 1) Analysis or education regarding the impact of societal factors (e.g., income, education, unemployment/employment security, social exclusion, food security/insecurity, housing quality, health insurance coverage) on health among rural and farm families; 2) Analysis or education regarding health literacy or health disparities in access and usage of health services or of health conditions and their respective impact on health status of rural and farm families; and/or 3) Related issues of health promotion and health care to rural individuals and families with: *Information as to the value of good health at any age; *Information to increase individual or family’s motivation to take more responsibility for their own health;*Information about and access to health promotion and educational activities; and *Training for volunteers and health services providers concerning health promotion and health care services for individuals and families in cooperation with local and community partners.
