Agency Name: NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND
Description: The purpose of this agreement is to continue to monitor the status, distribution and population trends of the San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike to aid in the recovery of this species. There are five main objectives to this Agreement: (1) To determine the minimum population of shrikes at SCI; (2) to determine the number of breeding pairs and measure reproductive success of the identified pairs; (3) to band and monitor chicks, fledglings, breeding pairs, solitary adults and released shrikes; (4) to identify the winter territories or movement patterns of wintering adults and juveniles; and (5) to provide technical assistance to other elements of the San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike recovery program, such as: documentation of number and distribution of predators throughout inhabited shrike habitat; documentation of behavioral patterns while monitoring shrikes; assist in provision of supplemental food to the wild population (following acceptance of feeding protocol) and assistance when it is necessary to capture or transport wild eggs or chicks for inclusion into the captive population.
