Additional Information

Agency Name:: U.S. Mission to India
Description:: Model UN (MUN) programs are growing in popularity and many events are being organized in schools, colleges, and universities each year around India. These events offer a unique platform to bring together the next generation of leaders from across India to discuss regional and global issues. MUN also enhances several important skill sets: foreign policy research, negotiation, drafting resolutions, public speaking, problem solving, and debating.

While elite Indian schools send their students to compete internationally, it’s less likely they will compete against fellow Indian MUN participants from neighboring states. We propose a two-part Model UN tournament. The main event will be a “Consulate Cup” MUN tournament in Mumbai, drawing together leading MUN delegates from Mumbai and other western Indian cities.

In order to identify delegates for the Consulate Cup in Mumbai, the grantee also will be responsible for organizing and executing, including all logistical and administrative arrangements, a MUN tournament in at least one western Indian city outside of Mumbai.

Target audiences should include, but are not limited to, high school and college/university students interested in foreign policy and world affairs. Youth should come from a variety of Indian academic institutions. The U.S. Consulate General Mumbai will approve the final list of participants.

The event(s) outside Mumbai and Mumbai Consulate Cup should take place before the end of calendar year 2015 and take into account school exam and holiday schedules. Alternate timing of the conferences will be considered, but must be approved by U.S. Consulate General Mumbai. The U.S. Consulate will work with the grantee and local partners, and with other appropriate institutions, such as the UN Information Office, to plan the events.
