Agency Name: U.S. Mission to Pakistan
Description:

The U.S. Department of State’s Consulate General Peshawar (CGP) announces an open competition for one assistance award through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), contingent on funding availability, through the Public Diplomacy Grants Program. Under this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), CGP is seeking proposals to conduct a five-day Masterclass Residency Program to train 40 sports coaches from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on the critical role men play in ending gender-based violence (GBV). The organization will be responsible for recruiting coaches from different KP sports boards and for covering their travel, lodging and food during the masterclass.

The sports arena is a pivotal environment where boys get explicit and implicit instruction about what it means to be a man and how to treat women. It is the perfect space to introduce alternative forms of masculinity. Coupling socio-cultural and life skills lessons, this masterclass will equip the coaches with the knowledge and skills to train young boys on the role they play in ending gender-based violence and be an advocate on this issue (topics to be included include, what is gender-based violence, bystander intervention to stop gender based violence, self-awareness, power and its types etc.) resulting in improved behavior towards women and a broader understanding of what constitutes violence against women.

This Masterclass will be conducted in consultation with a U.S.-based organization that already has experience on how to engage men and boys in ending gender-based violence and countering sexual harassment. The U.S.- based organization will provide material, and methodology to disseminate this concept in an effective way to these coaches. After completion of the Masterclass, small grants will be given to these coaches to engage youth on their role in ending this scourge. Sports is a hook to develop a positive and healthy understanding of what it is to be a man for boys and young men.
