| Additional Information on Eligibility: | In order to be eligible to receive an award, all organizations must have a unique entity identifier as well as a valid registration on www.SAM.gov.
Applicants must be a non-profit organization, NGO, or community-based organization registered with the Government of Ghana; or an active membership-based community organization in existence for at least one year. The proposed project should be a single activity that helps to improve basic economic or social conditions at the local level. Projects should be administered at the local level. If the project is designed to generate income, it must be truly community-based, functioning through a co-operative organization or non-profit and not an individual or private business. The project should be sustainable and not require continued support after the one-time contribution from the Special Self-Help Program. Substantial community participation is required during the project. Contributions may include labor, materials, equipment, land, buildings, or financial contributions. Projects must demonstrate that the organization and local community have the capacity and ability to operate and maintain the project. All projects must be completed within one calendar year of the grant award date. Content of Application – Please ensure that all applications include: The proposal clearly addresses the goals and objectives of this funding opportunity, a passport-size photograph of the project coordinator on the first page of the application in the space indicated, all budgets are in U.S. dollars or Ghana cedi, , pro-forma invoices must be included for all requested items, and (if applicable) Letters of support from relevant district office. |

The U.S. Embassy Accra of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program under the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Program.
The U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Program’s (SSH) goal is to provide small-scale assistance directly to Ghanaian community-based organizations as part of an ongoing commitment by the U.S. government to support Ghanaian-driven development activities at the local level. The SSH Program awards grants to registered non-governmental, non-profit, community-based organizations to implement short-term (12-month), small-scale (between $1,000 and $12,000) development projects that include significant community involvement.
The Embassy encourages the submission of any proposal meeting the eligibility criteria.
