U.S. Embassy Tokyo’s Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for proposals to engage in celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Japan and the 75th anniversary of the program overall by showcasing the impact Fulbright alumni have made to the U.S.-Japan relationship through a Fulbright Alumni Award program. Alumni awards should be keyed to the following priority areas: 1) U.S.-Japan Security Alliance and Indo-Pacific Multilateral Security cooperation 2) Environment and Sustainability 3) Women’s Economic Empowerment 4) Innovation This award program will serve to 1) promote the Fulbright program itself; 2) increase the number and diversity of Japanese applicants; and 3) generate increase interest among the Japanese public for the Fulbright program. These Fulbright “Heroes” will also be featured in a short video that we can use for recruitment purposes. This is meant to highlight the ways the Fulbright program helps to advance Mission priorities.
Priority Region: Japan Program Objectives: As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Japan and the 75th anniversary of the program’s inception in the United States in 2021-2022, it is both an opportune time to reflect on the accomplishments of Fulbright alumni contributing to a variety of fields in Japan, and look to the future of the U.S. government’s flagship people-to-people exchange program. This proposed program will award several prominent Fulbrighters with an “Ambassador’s Award.” The selected grantee will collect information on the alumni, showcase their contributions to the U.S.-Japan relationship, and then publicize the awards. All programs must include an American element, such as a connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives, or discussions by Japanese speakers regarding their experience in the United States. Project activities should take place in Japan and should multiply the effects of participants’ exchange experience by positively impacting communities in Japan. Participants and Audiences: All programs must engage Japanese audiences, with a focus on the U.S.-Japan Fulbright program. |
