The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Midwest Region, is offering a grant through a Cooperative Agreement to the University of Missouri for a project selected by the Steering Committee of the Eastern Tallgrass Prairie and Big Rivers Landscape Conservation Cooperative. This grant aims to address the significant nutrient loading issues affecting the Gulf of Mexico, particularly from nine states within the Mississippi River Basin. By studying the rich fish species diversity in the basin, the project will focus on the impacts of human landscape disturbances and dam constructions on the river network. Closing date: Aug 18, 2017

Description: | The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Midwest Region, intends to issue a Single Source Cooperative Agreement without competition to the University of Missouri (MU) for a project selected by the Steering Committee of the Eastern Tallgrass Prairie and Big Rivers Landscape Conservation Cooperative (ETPBR LCC). Estimates of nutrient loading to the Gulf of Mexico indicate that nine states within the Mississippi River Basin are responsible for approximately 75% of all nitrogen and phosphorus delivered to the Gulf. The Mississippi Basin supports a rich assemblage of fish species; at least 25% of all species in the conterminous United States are found in the Basin. These assemblages reflect their habitats, human landscape disturbances and fragmentation of the river network by dams. |
