The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a grant to Clemson University for a project focusing on the Conservation and Natural History of Northern Pine Snake across north Georgia. The project involves live and camera trapping on various lands near museum vouchered Pine Snake records to identify current distribution, as well as head-starting wild clutches of hatchling/juvenile age classes in a Longleaf Pine restoration site. This grant aims to address the species’ needs by understanding the spatial and structural requirements of multiple age classes in a changing forest environment. Closing date for applications is Sep 5, 2018.

| Description: | THIS IS A NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD TO A SINGLE SOURCE, AND THERE IS NO FULL ANNOUNCEMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS NOTICE. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) intends to award a cooperative agreement to Clemson University to support a project titled â¿¿Conservation and Natural History of Northern Pine Snake across north Georgiaâ¿.1. Live (active) and camera (passive) trap on (1) lands (state, federal, and private) near (within 5km) museum vouchered Pine Snake records and (2) lands undergoing montane Longleaf Pine (Pinus palustris) and Shortleaf Pine (Pinus echinata) restoration. This addresses the primary issue of an SSA step (1) speciesâ¿¿ needs by identifying current distribution.2. Initiate the understanding of hatchling/ juvenile age classes through head-starting wild clutches. This will take place on the Paulding WMA located near Dallas, GA for the 2019 active season. The first clutch for this site has been collected, and will serve as the pilot study in a heavily managed montane Longleaf Pine restoration site. This addresses an SSA step (1) speciesâ¿¿ needs by exploring the spatial and structural requirements behind multiple age classes in a rapidly changing forest. |
