The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in partnership with the University of California, Santa Cruz, is offering this grant to conduct a critical study on southern sea otters. This research aims to characterize patterns of male territoriality, measure the degree of polygamy, and examine the factors affecting male reproductive success. Additionally, the project will describe the patterns and predictors of long-distance dispersal among these animals. Funded by the Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office, the information derived from this study will be incorporated into vital recovery and management strategies. This grant is for advancing scientific understanding and supporting the long-term conservation and recovery of the southern sea otter population.
