The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is providing a Cooperative Agreement for the restoration of Walker River and Walker Lake. This grant is for supporting the long-term ecological recovery of the region, specifically focusing on avian populations and their habitats. Awarded to the Great Basin Bird Observatory without competition, the initiative includes comprehensive inventory of breeding bird communities in riparian zones and establishing a long-term system-wide monitoring program to assess restoration effectiveness. Furthermore, the grant will facilitate bird habitat modeling for a geospatial decision support tool, developed in collaboration with FWS and UNR. This cooperative effort also assists the FWS in coordinating implementation, research, and monitoring activities with partners, ensuring a unified vision for the Walker River and Walker Lake restoration.
