The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Western Geographic Science Center (WGSC) is offering a grant through the Cooperative Ecoystem Studies Unit, Colorado Plateau CESU for research to develop a spatially-explicit tool forecasting coastal habitat response to sea level rise. They seek a partner with expertise in modeling Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in coastal waters using satellite imagery. The grant aims to support the creation of a forecasting tool for coastal decision makers by providing high accuracy TSS maps. Closing date for applications is Feb 21, 2014.

Description: | The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Western Geographic Science Center (WGSC) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to support development of a spatially-explicit tool to forecast coastal habitat response to sea level rise. In support of this project, we seek a CESU partnership that will focus on development of TSS maps needed to develop this tool. The proposed work will provide USGS monitoring/research teams the ability to develop remote sensing-based models of TSS at an accuracy level high enough to produce a forecasting tool useful for coastal decision makers. Ultimately we seek a partner who 1) possesses a strong working knowledge of algorithms used to model TSS in coastal, turbid waters, and 2) a working understanding of the application of satellite imagery for mapping TSS. |
