Additional Information

Agency Name: Geological Survey
Description: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Great Lakes Science Center is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU Parnter for research to describe changes in gene expression during development in the wild and the hatchery for cisco (Coregonus artedi) from the Great Lakes. This work is in support of ongoing efforts to develop a cisco hatchery strain that may be used to restore cisco to Lake Huron. Hatchery and resource managers are interested in understanding the impacts of the early rearing environment on gene expression and ultimately the adult phenotype in cisco. Working with agency partners, the USGS has collected gametes and made crosses of cisco from lakes Huron and Superior. Using these fish, the objective is to describe gene expression in hatchery and wild cisco from northern Lake Huron and western Lake Superior from hatch to metamorphosis.
