This grant, offered by the University of Colorado, provides crucial funding for 0.5 months of PI support and a Professional Research Associate for one year. Its primary purpose is to advance the understanding of coastal health in Southeast National Parks through multi-scale analysis. Key objectives include acquiring diverse environmental datasets, meticulously assessing and comparing water quality both inside and outside park boundaries using established criteria, and synthesizing these findings with existing Water Chemistry Analysis (WCA) data. This comprehensive synthesis will contextualize park water quality within broader state and regional perspectives. Furthermore, the project emphasizes rigorously documenting all methodologies, ensuring that the water quality comparisons and analyses can be replicated across different regions and over time, facilitating long-term, large-scale environmental monitoring and change detection.

Description: | THIS IS A NOTICE OF INTENT ONLY. This agreement will provide funding for 0.5 months of PI support at the University of Colorado and Professional Research Associate (PRA) for one year to: 1) acquire various datasets needed for analysis, 2) assess and compare water quality inside park boundaries to water quality outside park boundaries using existing criteria where available, and 3) synthesize results from park WCAs with newly acquired data to put park water quality into state and regional perspectives. The methods used for this project will be carefully documented so that these comparisons can be repeated in other regions and repeated through time to track changes in water quality on a large scale. |
